Business Brain Food

Daniel Flynn – Thankyou Group

Are you thirsty? Go to your refrigerator to get a bottle of water or to your tap to fill a glass with water. Do you take that clean water for granted? Thousands of children die every day from water-borne disease and 900,000 million people don’t have access to clean water.

Daniel Flynn is a co-founder and managing director of the Thankyou Group, which was created to provide clean water to people in third-world countries where clean water was not available. Thankyou utilises a social enterprise business model. The company distributes profits quarterly and 100 percent of its profits go to funding aid and development projects.

Thankyou is a business. It’s about making money, but for a greater purpose.

Cone Cause Evolution Study reported the following:

** 83% want more products, services, and retailers they use to support causes

** 88% find it acceptable for businesses to engage a cause or issue in their marketing

** 90% want companies to tell them how they are supporting causes

** 85% possess a more positive impression of a product or brand when it supports a cause they care about

If you are thinking about supporting a cause, do it! Everyone in a business can make a global impact—changing the world in a simple way—but it has to be a genuine effort and not just to boost sales. Thankyou’s success didn’t happen overnight. Flynn and his team members struggled and worked hard, and even experienced some failures. It was a roller coaster journey that helped Thankyou figure out what needed to happen to go enter the mainstream markets and be successful!
